The International Day of Immunology, observed annually on April 29, is dedicated to increasing global awareness of the importance of immunology for health and wellbeing.
Established in 2005 by the European Federation of Immunological Societies (EFIS), the success of Day of Immunology led to it being celebrated worldwide since 2007. Australian and New Zealand Society for Immunology (ASI) has been celebrating the Day of Immunology in since 2009.
ASI has hosted numerous events around Australia and New Zealand in 2024 to celebrate the International Day of Immunology. This year, CIIDIR was privileged to be one of these events hosting its first every Day of Immunology at the Health Education and Research Building (HERB) in Geelong.
As the arms race between disease and immunity continues to rage, it is more important than ever to grow public knowledge and interest in immunology. The events are public and encourage to let family, friends and members of the public to meet our global leaders in immunology research.
The event was a delightful afternoon with lectures from some of CIIDIR’s immunology experts including Dr Luba Sominsky, Dr Clifford Liongue and Professor Peter Vuillermin.
Next year, CIIDIR will continue to host the Day of Immunology event to encourage members of the public to get involved with the important immunological research we conduct.
